Ben Jones

I joined Active Norfolk in July 2006. After completing a degree in Sports Science, then a Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Science I have worked in various different roles around sport. I managed a multi-sport social inclusion project in Thetford for two years before becoming a lecturer in Sports Science at City College in Norwich.  In my spare time I enjoy watching and participating in many sports.

Sports Development Project Officer- Disability & Rural- Ellen Vanlint

Ellen VanlintI started work with Active Norfolk in 2008. I am responsible for developing Disability Sport in Norfolk, this means working with Clubs, Schools, individuals and NGBs to name a few. I am keen to continue to raise the profile of Disability Sport in Norfolk and celebrate some of the fantastic successes we already have as well as hopefully creating more!

My other role is to manage the Village Games project. This is an exciting project where we encourage people in rural areas to take up sport.

I am sports mad and enjoy playing and watching most Sport. I am a keen Hockey player and play for North Walsham Ladies in the East league.

Kristen HallMarketing & Communications Officer - Kristen Hall

I joined Active Norfolk in June 2014 as Marketing Communications Officer. After obtaining my masters in Communications and Media at Newcastle University in 2007, I started at an independent media agency in Newcastle where I worked on a variety of business-to-business and business-to-consumer media and marketing campaigns.

In my new role at Active Norfolk I will be responsible for the marketing communications functions for the organisation, and assisting Project Officers with their marketing needs.

In my spare time I enjoy running, and have taken part in the Great North Run and Paris Marathon.

Sports Project Officer - Sports Makers & School Games - Stephen Hulme

Stephen HulmeMy role at Active Norfolk involves delivering the  School Games and Sports Makers initiatves across the county. This includes supporting schools with the delivery of competitive sports programmes and using the excitement around the Olympic Games to encourage more people to take on volunteering roles within their sporting community.

Website Development & Communications Officer - Helen Baldry

Helen BaldryMy role at Active Norfolk is to maintain the website by keeping it up-to-date with sports news and events from around Norfolk. I send regular newsletters and updates to ensure that relevant information is communicated about Active Norfolk's activities, including courses, kids sports activities, funding opportunties and job vacancies.

In addition to website development, I support the Marketing and Communications Officer.

My role is part time and my usual days in the office are Mondays, Tuesdays and Friday afternoons. I enjoy swimming and aerobics and I running when the weather's nice!

Sports Project Worker (Health) - Sam Watts

My role at Active Norfolk involves working across the health delivery plan and new health projects to maximise opportunities for the county to get involved in sport and physical activity, primarily to those who are inactive.

My spare time consists of attending the gym, playing football, and watching all forms of sport, in particular following closely the fortunes of Norwich City Fc. I am also a strength and conditioning level 2 coach and self-confessed fitness freak.

Event Manager - Fiona Roberts

I joined Active Norfolk in 2014 to continue my role as Event Manager for Active Norfolk and Norfolk County Council.

In recent years I have been responsible for the delivery of the Tour of Britain and Torch Relay in Norfolk.

I also deliver events management training and advise on event safety procedures.

In my spare time I read and paint. I love camping, going to other people's events and have recently started running.

Project Officer & Administrator - Lisa Carey

I joined Active Norfolk in 2011 and I run the Get Into project which offers adults the opportunity to 'get into' sport.  My other role at Active Norfolk is as the Office Administrator dealing with the day to day running of the office and finance.

In my spare time I attend the gym regularly, cycle, walk and spend time in my garden.

Fit4Work Project Officer - Katie Tierney

As project officer of Active Norfolk’s Fit4Work Workplace Health Programme, my role is to engage with organisations in Norfolk to raise awareness of the importance to businesses of a healthy workforce and to support workplaces in improving the health and wellbeing of their employees.

With a background in project management in both the private and public sector, I understand the importance of providing a professional service to businesses and ensuring the relevant support and guidance is available to help them implement a workplace health programme.

In my spare time, I enjoy walks in the countryside, reading and discovering new places to visit within Norfolk, Great Britain and further afield!

Sports Development Manager - Ian Grange

Ian Grange

Ian joined Active Norfolk in 2007 as Workforce Development Officer and moved into the Coaching Development Manager role in 2009, before being appointed into the Sports Development Manager role in February 2014.

Supporting National Governing Bodies in the delivery of their Whole Sport Plans in Norfolk is a key element of Ian's role, whilst managing the delivery of Sport England funded programmes as delivered by the County Sports Partnership. Also Ian is a qualified Safeguarding & Protecting Children tutor with Sports Coach UK and the Safeguarding Lead at Active Norfolk.

Outside of work Ian is coaches cycling and is a Level 2 Qualified coach with British Cycling. Prior to retiring Ian was an England international in his sport of Cycle Speedway.

Rural Sports Development Officers

As a team, we are responsible for setting up and delivering the county's flagship sports project 'The Norfolk Village Games'. We aim to remove barriers to participation of sport in rural communities, by delivering sustainable sporting opportunities to thousands of people. This exciting new project involves the recruitment of village volunteers from the area, planning and promoting sports taster roadshows and follow up coaching and club links, planning and co-ordinating the district village games and supporting the annual county games.


Aaron Roberts (known as Aggy) - North Norfolk, Broadland & West Norfolk

Aaron RobertsNorfolk through and through, I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in July 2011 with a Sport and Community Development Degree. Since then I have worked for Active Norfolk on a temporary basis, lending a helping hand on various projects.

Most of my spare time is taken up by playing a variety sport especially football and cricket.

Alex Bond - South Norfolk, Great Yarmouth & Breckland

Alex BondI graduated from DeMontfort University Bedford with a Degree in Sports Science with Leisure and Recreation and spent 5 years in the Hotel Industry working my way up to Assistant Manager before returning to my first love, sport. I started work in Norfolk in 2006, first as a Multi Skills Coach in the schools, then in 2008 as a School Sport Competition Manager before joining the Active Norfolk team in December 2011 as a Rural Sport Development Officer.

Outside of work I coach and play hockey for Lowestoft Ladies Hockey Club in the East North 1 Division, but can be found either watching or playing many other sports.

Sports Project Officer - Athletics - Paul Evans

Paul EvansI have been a full time athlete since 1990 with highlights of competing in two Olympic finals and winning the Chicago Marathon.

With athletics being such a large part of my life I wanted to stay involved after retiring from international competition. Joining Active Norfolk in September 2003 has been a natural progression in my career and I am excited in my role to create athletic opportunities for young people within the county.

Golf Development Officer - Karen Young

KarenI joined the Active Norfolk team in January 2008 having previously worked at the Norwich School of Art of Design for a number of years, latterly managing the Registry Services.

I support the delivery of the Norfolk County Golf Partnership's golf development plan in the County. The plan looks to introducing adults and young people alike to the fun and benefits of the game of golf as well as to enhance skills, either as a player, coach and/or a volunteer.

My role as Golf Development Officer is a part time role. The rest of my time is spent as one half of 2 Active Norfolk's Website Officers.

I love giving any sport a go and still dabble in a round of golf every now and then!

Sports Project Worker (Golf & Satellite Clubs) - George Webster

I joined Active Norfolk in December 2009 after completing a Sport and Leisure Management degree at the University of Brighton. Since then, I have taken up a variety of roles and assisted with the delivery of a number of projects / initiatives throughout the County.

In my current role which is split into two, I am responsible for coordinating a number of projects with the aim of getting more people into playing golf and establishing Satellite Clubs covering a range of sporting activities at high schools throughout the County.

In my spare time I regularly participate in a range of sporting / fitness activities including golf, tennis, table tennis, running and attending the gym. I also enjoy watching sports and frequently attend major sporting events and concerts. I am a Norwich City season ticket holder and closely follow their fortunes both home and away.

Fit Together County Co-ordinator - Mel Brown

Mel BrownI joined the Active Norfolk Team at the end of November 2007. I lived, trained and studied in the USA from 1993 to 2005. I received my M.A in History in 2002 concentrating on the African American experience. I run the 400m and 200m and was selected for the GB masters team for the first time in 2005. At the European Masters Championships I claimed a bronze medal in 2006 and came 6th at the Masters World Championships in Italy in 2007. I regularly compete for Woodford Green and Essex Ladies. Other than sprinting my hobbies include outdoor activities, Latin and Ballroom dancing, and spending time with family and my two and a half year old Labrador Retriever. I live in Sheringham and am based at the offices of North Norfolk District Council.

Mel co-ordinates the Fit Together project in Norfolk. The ongoing programme consists of led walks, dances and cycle rides that anyone can join in.
