We’re thrilled to share our new Impact Report for 2023-24! See what we’ve been up to.

Dragons On The Move

The Programme

Dragons On The Move is a vibrant initiative that emerged from the ‘On The Move’ programme, which ran from 2019 to 2023. This initiative was born out of a deep commitment to empower young adults with disabilities as they navigate the transition from education to adult life.

Our partnership with the Disability Real Action Group of Norfolk (DRAGONs) has been instrumental in this journey. This dynamic group of young individuals with disabilities travel to clubs and leisure centres across the county, assessing their accessibility and usability for individuals with disabilities or additional mobility requirements. Their work not only ensures inclusivity but also enriches the experiences of all visitors.

2023-2024 DRAGONs On The Move data insights

Some of our work with the DRAGONs over the past year can be seen through the insights below.

Impact Summary

The Dragons play an invaluable role in reviewing leisure facilities. Their assessments are not mere evaluations; they’re a catalyst for change, driving improvements in accessibility and inclusivity across the sector.

Their unique insights, borne out of their personal experiences and perspectives, are a powerful tool in our mission to create a more inclusive and accessible environment. These insights are helping us understand the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and are guiding our efforts to address these challenges effectively.

On The Move - Impact Report Our Work

The Dragons have effectively collaborated with nurture groups at Aylsham and Cromer high schools. This strategic engagement aims to expand the Dragons’ volunteer base, foster a sense of connection between individuals with disabilities and local sports facilities, and encourage physical activity. This initiative has cultivated a nurturing environment that promotes active participation and inclusivity for young adults with disabilities.

The Dragons have been instrumental in building new relationships between local leisure centres and nearby groups, particularly in Dereham. These relationships have enhanced the accessibility and inclusivity of leisure facilities in the area.

The growing demand for the Dragons’ reviews highlights a crucial gap in the leisure sector – the need for accessibility insights from those with disabilities. New providers are increasingly interested, recognising the value of these reviews. The Dragons’ unique perspective helps leisure facilities become truly inclusive, transforming the sector one review at a time.

The Dragons On The Move initiative has established links with other Active Norfolk schemes, such as the Big Norfolk Holiday Fun programme and the Open School Facilities (OSF) project. These connections have broadened the reach and impact of the initiative, promoting inclusivity and accessibility across a wider range of activities and facilities.

The Dragons have collaborated with Independence Matters on a Gateway module. This collaboration has further enriched the initiative, providing additional resources and support for the Dragons and the wider community
