Children and Young People

Getting children and young people active

Our aim is to get more children and young people in Norfolk physically active, earlier in life.

What we do:

We work with and support a wide range of partners to positively influence opportunities for children and young people to become more active. We want to increase the number of young people involved in movement, physical activity and sport. This is in both educational and community settings.

To do this we will:

  • Positively influence opportunities for children and young people to achieve the Chief Medical Officer’s guidelines of 30 active minutes in school every day
  • Support the development of positive experiences for children and young people from early years to further and higher education
  • Promote Youth Voice and Youth Engagement in the design and delivery of opportunities for children and young people
  • Support the development of young leaders in physical activity and sport to empower and inspire others
  • Influence and provide a connection between education establishments, access to their facilities and community opportunities for young people
  • Provide practical support and training, subject expertise and programme management

In a nutshell:

We work with a wide range of organisations across systems to embed physical activity into their practice. We encourage using it as a tool to improve outcomes for their pupils, patients, service users, families, or any type of young person or family that they support. To do this, our CYP team offers practical training and guidance, subject expertise and programme management.

We know that developing a positive relationship with physical activity and movement is crucial to getting people healthy and moving. Our role is to develop awareness of the role physical activity can play in improving the lives of young people.
