Our Mission

Physical activity is a key part of the overall solution.

We work with system partners across local government, health and social care, education, and the voluntary and community sectors to find shared objectives, and build solutions to help those who can benefit the most from being more physically active.

Our Vision

A Norfolk where being physically active is just ‘what people do’ in their daily life. Where financial circumstances, health and ability aren’t a barrier to exercise. Where opportunities are designed around individual and community needs and promoted so effectively that everyone knows about them and why they should be involved.

Our Vision

Snapshot from the past year

In 2022-2023 we advanced our strategy, strengthening partnerships and programmes. By working strategically to unite resources, ambitions and efforts we are rebalancing the inequalities within our communities. Thanks to the support of our partnership network, we are combatting this and the many barriers to getting active. This review highlights our progress towards this.

5, Additional resources
Our team are always on hand to provide guidance on where you can find additional resources. There are great resources like Visual Timetables you can use to help the children to feel more comfortable in your sessions, as well as guides on how to make your venue as user-friendly as possible. It is important that your sessions are accessible for all children, regardless of physical or learning disability, race or gender. Remember: Best practice for SEND is best practice for everyone.

1, Equality policy template
You will have been asked to provide your Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy when you applied to us for funding. If you need some help with creating or updating this, there are pre-made templates you can use to get you started. For free, guided help please contact Momentum Norfolk

2) HAF and SEND toolkit
The Government has produced an easy-to-use toolkit especially for those of you delivering this (Holiday Activity Food or HAF) programme. It is designed to help you manage Special Educational Needs and Disabled (SEND) children in your care.

3, SEND e-learning
The best way to be inclusive is to understand the needs of the children and young people you're working with. Have a look at this simple introduction to SEND by Norfolk County Council.

4, Provider session feedback form
Please ensure you send this feedback form home with any SEND child, as parents really appreciate details about how their child has been doing

Quizzes, related games and colouring are available, such as team games or the Norse Nutrition Pack, but it is much better to embed the learning into the activities you are already doing wherever possible.

Providing Nutritional
Education

Providing the nutritional education part of your offer is the area almost all providers struggle with the most, but it doesn’t have to be a challenge.

The government guidance on the programme says: "Providers must include an element of nutritional education each day aimed at improving the knowledge and awareness of healthy eating for children. These do not need to be formal learning activities and could for example include activities such as:

Getting children involved in food preparation and cooking

Growing fruit and vegetables

Taste tests

Discussing food and nutrition

Including food and nutrition in other activities

The children don’t have to cook or prepare food, although this is a great activity if you have the facilities, either indoors or outside. If you don’t have a way to cook, consider cold dishes such as fruit kababs or smoothies.

Encourage and explain the reason why bringing a water bottle and drinking water regularly is good for you, and discuss why water is a better choice than fizzy drinks.

Talking through the menu the children are being offered for lunch, is a great way to show introduce them to possibly new foods and tastes and to get them thinking about why they should give it a try!

Children should be physically active for 60 minutes each day. By including physical activity into your sessions, this is an easy and fun way for children to get moving.

The government website says: "All children and young people participating in the HAF programme should engage in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity for an average of at least 60 minutes per day - this does not have to be in the form of a structured activity session, but can include active travel, free play and sports"

Below are some ideas on how you could achieve this:

1, NHS 10 minute shake-ups
These 10 minute exercises are Disney themed, and are a particularly good way of adding physical activity into short breaks for younger children.

2) Active Norfolk's Active Kids
Our Active Kids section has ideas on how to get children of all ages moving. These include short 5-10 minute exercises, as well as brain training exercises and things to try outdoors with minimal equipment.
