Am I insured?

Walking is a very low risk activity, however, as led walks are organised activities, those who organise and lead them are regarded in law as having an ‘enhanced duty of care’ to the people who attend. It is recommended everyone who leads a walk has public liability insurance, if you are leading walks as part of your job role you may be covered by your employer’s insurance.

To ensure the safety of walkers and to protect yourself, risk assessments should be carried out for all routes.

To confirm walkers are aware they walk at their own risk, they should sign a disclaimer on the register.

Are dogs allowed?

It’s up to you to decide if you want to allow them. Some routes may be more suitable for dogs than other. Dogs should be ‘under close control’ at all times and owners must accept responsibility.

Assistance on Walks

Walk leaders cannot take responsibility for assisting adults on the walks. If assistance is needed, the walker must come with another responsible adult.

Under 18’s

All under 18’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
